The National Blue Ribbon Program awards the National Blue Ribbon School award to public and private elementary, middle, and high schools nationwide. For over 30 years, the National Blue Ribbon School award program has recognized schools for their outstanding academic achievements. In order to be eligible, a school must be nominated in one of two categories: “Exemplary High Performing Schools” or “Exemplary High Achievement Gap Closing Schools.” To win this prestigious award, schools must meet the criteria for the category for which they were nominated, have a minimum of 100 students enrolled at the school, and have at least 10 students’ assessment data for both English Language Arts and Mathematics.
Last year marked a decade since the first Academica-supported charter school received this recognition. In 2020, two more Academica-supported schools were named National Blue Ribbon Schools. Those schools were Somerset Academy Miramar and Somerset Academy South Miami. Throughout the years, Somerset Academy Davie and Mater Academy East Charter School have been a part of the few schools in the nation that have been designated a National Blue Ribbon School twice.
